Robert G. Schwartz, MD, of Greenville, SC's Piedmont Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation will chair a panel of international physicians and medical practitioners for a CME program at the South Carolina Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Annual meeting to be held in conjunction with the South Carolina Medical Association Annual Meeting in Greenville, South Carolina on April 30, 2011
The panel will address the following areas of chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS)
1. The role of Medical Thermology in the diagnosis and treatment of CRPS
2. An understanding of the clinical & objective criteria for CRPS
3. The treatment approaches to CRPS
4. The improvement of CRPS patient outcomes through medical education
Topics will include:
The complex disease states of CRPS are not fully understood by most physicians. Misdiagnosis stems from a misunderstanding of the symptoms and the fact that there is no conclusive test to confirm or rule out the presence of CRPS. While there are several emerging therapies that show promise for treating CRPS, there are no universally accepted guidelines for what therapies should be used for which cases. A wide range of treatment options makes treating CRPS even more difficult. This program will address what clinicians need to know, the signs and symptoms of the disorder, and the impact that early diagnosis and intervention can have for patients.
The program will highlight that CRPS is clearly indicated for Medical Thermal Imaging or Medical Thermography. Other technologies like PET scan, MRI, Spectroscopy, Electrodiagnostics or EEG do not provide the same information offered by Medical Thermography. The clinical application of Thermography can help physicians both understand the pathophysiology associated with these changes and improve patient outcomes.
The panel includes:
Robert G Schwartz, MD, Greenville, SC; President of the American Academy of Thermology; Board certified in PMR, Fellow Vascular Medicine; Executive Director, SC Society for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
